Master of Paradox

Lucy quickly polished off the macaroni and beans on her plate, leaving her with only carrots. So, Grandma offered to go and get her more. When Lucy received the food with stoic silence, her mother insisted that she say: “Thank you.”

Lucy promptly opened her mouth to reveal a large collection of carrot bits, and responded: “I can’t say ‘thank you.’ My mouth is full.”

The irony of the situation did not amuse her mother, even when her sister pointed out that technically, Lucy had now said “thank you.”
